How the Daily Tournament Works

  1. Open the Daily Tournament. A new set of 8 deals is released each day. Every player gets the exact same cards.
  2. Bid and play all 8 deals. You play with your AI partner against AI opponents, using the same rules as any other game in the app. The header shows your progress (for example, daily 1/8).
  3. Your results are matchpointed. On each deal, your score is compared with every other player who played it.
  4. Check the standings. Your matchpoint percentage across the 8 deals decides your rank in that day's final standings.

Because everyone holds identical cards, a bad hand is not bad luck — it's the same bad hand for the whole field. What separates players is how well they bid and play it. That's the idea behind duplicate bridge, the format used in bridge clubs and championships, and it's what makes the Daily Tournament a fair test of skill.

Matchpoint Scoring, Explained

In Rubber and Chicago bridge, you add up total points. In the Daily Tournament, what matters is how your result on each deal compares with everyone else's on the same deal. That comparison is called matchpoint scoring:

An MP% of 50% is exactly average. Around 55% is a solid day, 60% is very good, and 65% or more usually puts you near the top of the standings.

The key difference: at matchpoints, beating the field by 10 points counts just as much as beating it by 1,000. Every deal is worth the same, so one disaster costs you one deal — not the whole tournament.

A Worked Example

Say six players hold the same North-South cards on a deal (not vulnerable), and most of them reach 4♠. Here is how the field scored, and the matchpoints each result earns (5 is the top — beating all five other players):

ResultScoreMatchpointsDeal %
4♠ made with an overtrick+4505100%
You: 4♠ made exactly+4203½70%
4♠ made exactly+4203½70%
Stopped in 2♠, made 4+170240%
Stopped in 3♠, made 3+140120%
4♠ went down one−5000%

You beat three players (+170, +140, −50) and tied one (+420), so you earn 3 + ½ = 3½ out of 5, or 70%. Notice the player who made one overtrick: just 30 more points than you, but a full 100% on the deal. At matchpoints, a single overtrick can be worth as much as bidding a game.

Tips for Scoring Well at Matchpoints

1. Every overtrick counts

As the example shows, +450 beats +420. Once your contract is safe, look for the line that takes the most tricks — the rest of the field is doing the same.

2. Prefer majors and notrump over minors

Notrump and major-suit contracts score more per trick. 1NT making two tricks (+120) beats 2♦ making three (+110), and 3NT (+400) needs only nine tricks, while 5♣ or 5♦ needs eleven for the same score.

3. Fight for the partscore

Many deals are partscore battles. Letting opponents play 2♥ when your side could make 2♠ costs matchpoints on a deal that "didn't matter" in rubber bridge.

4. Bid with the field

You don't need to bid every thin game or slam. If most good players will reach 4♠, reach 4♠ and then outplay them — that's usually worth more than a wild gamble.

5. Shake off a bad board

Each deal is worth the same. A zero on deal 2 costs one deal out of eight — reset and play the next one well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a bridge app with a daily tournament?

Yes. Bridge Card Game Classic includes a Daily Tournament, available now on iPhone and iPad and coming soon to Android. Every player gets the same 8 deals each day, results are scored by matchpoints like a duplicate club game, and new standings are posted daily. No sign-up is needed.

Is the Daily Tournament available on Android?

Not yet. The Daily Tournament is available now on iPhone and iPad and is coming soon to Android. Rubber Bridge and Chicago Bridge are already available on Google Play.

How many deals are in the Daily Tournament?

Eight. Every player gets the same 8 deals that day, so everyone is compared on identical cards.

How is the Daily Tournament scored?

By matchpoints. On each deal your score is compared with every other player who played it: you earn one point for each player you beat and half a point for each tie. Your total is shown as a matchpoint percentage (MP%), and the standings rank players by MP%.

What is a good matchpoint percentage?

50% is exactly average. Around 55% is a solid result, 60% is very good, and 65% or more usually puts you near the top of the field.

Do I need an account to play the Daily Tournament?

No sign-up is needed. Open the app and start the day's tournament.

Does the Daily Tournament work offline?

No. The Daily Tournament needs an internet connection so your results can be compared with other players. Rubber Bridge and Chicago Bridge play fully offline.

How is the Daily Tournament different from duplicate bridge at a club?

The scoring idea is the same: everyone plays identical deals and results are compared by matchpoints. The difference is that you play on your phone with an AI partner against AI opponents, whenever you like during the day, instead of moving between tables at a set time.
